WFR 04. The Professional Hobo. An Interview with Nora Dunn

If you follow the adventures of writer and TV personality Anthony Bourdain, it’s hard not be drawn in to his amazing world of discovering new experiences and meeting interesting people as he travels the world.

If nothing else, he’s an advocate for action and is on a one man mission to inspire us to do something… anything other than ingest the empty calories of a sedentary life. Which is a little ironic seeing these messages are sent to us via our 4K flat screen TVs but I digress.

Bourdain’s gift is is in the cadence of his message. He doesn’t garnish the dish with things you can’t use. I like this quote.

“If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food, it’s a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch. Move”

In 2006 Nora Dunn did exactly that.

She sold her financial planning business in Toronto Canada, sold up most of her possessions and hit the road for the adventure of a life time.

Since then she’s traveled “very slowly” (as she says) through more than 50 countries often swapping work for accommodation and using her writing skills to make up the difference.

In fact, Nora is the author of a number of books including ‘Live and work from anywhere’ and writes about travel, finance and lifestyle design.

She’s survived natural disasters, passport theft, hospital trips, head-on collisions, romances gone wrong, travel fatigue, and even apprenticed with a shaman in Peru for 2 years.
