When you’re starting out, you need to give something away.
Marketers call this a lead magnet and it’s very powerful.
Most roamers sell information or products online, but their customers are people they have been in touch with for quite some time.
Chances are, the customer that buys today will have taken you up on a free offer at some time in the past.
Let’s say you’re an expert at training dogs.
You know all there is to know about how to stop dogs from barking all the time, attacking strangers and how to stop them peeing inside.
But it’s day one and you have no customers to sell your very cool online dog training course to. This won’t happen until you build a list of potential customers you can engage with the chance-of-gain they will experience from buying your product.
So you write an eBook called The Dog Trainers Bible. Everything you ever wanted to know about training your pooch.
You then market your offer and drive traffic to a website that let’s them download your eBook after they put in their name and email.
That’s your lead magnet.
Over time I have written dozens of eBooks to build my lists and engage potential clients. Building a list means I get the chance to form a relationship and establish my credibility.
But the book must offer solid and highly usable information.
You want to make a positive impression on someone and give them real tools so they feel comfortable with coming back to you for more.
In fact, if you did a Google search right now looking for a free eBook in a certain field, chances are you’ll find it. By the way, if you can’t, then perhaps that’s the WFR business idea you’ve been looking for.
